Senior Backend Engineer

Who We Are

Viable helps make customer feedback actionable. By automating the process of structuring and labeling customer feedback, companies can ask any question in Viable and immediately get useful answers in human language.

We started Viable to help companies measure their product market fit. We quickly realized that companies had all kinds of questions about their customers: what they like, dislike, find frustrating about a workflow...and much more. Viable strives to answer such questions in seconds with high accuracy.

What You'll Do

Our customers trust us to aggregate, structure, and analyse their customer feedback data from a wide variety of sources. To do this, we’ve built out a highly scalable serverless architecture that takes advantage of modern deployment pipelines. Our team works with NextJS, Vercel, Postgres, and GraphQL to solve problems for our customers every day.

By joining this team, you’ll get to work with some of the most impressive technologies of today:

  • GPT-3, the most advanced NLP model available
  • InfluxDB, the best time series DB around
  • Hasura, the most robust GraphQL gateway of its kind

You’ll be working on a product that solves real problems for businesses across the world. As an early addition to the team (we’re still under 10 people total in the company!), you’ll get exposure to a wide range of problems to solve, including:

  • Building integrations with a wide variety of qualitative data sources
  • Managing and continually improving our data ingestion and enrichment pipeline
  • Building reporting tools to help our customers analyze their data
  • Creating ML models to solve complex NLP tasks (and using pre-existing models where appropriate)
  • Building the world’s best Q&A system for qualitative feedback

Why You Should Join

Becoming a part of the Viable engineering team means you'll be a vital part of a tight-knit group of dedicated individuals. With a team our size, everything you do will have enormous impact and you’ll often see the results of your efforts within hours, not days, weeks, or months.

Though we are a small company, we offer flexibility in our work schedules, and celebrate vacation and personal time. We know that a healthy relationship with work leads to better outcomes all around.

We believe that teams are more likely to be successful when they are made up of people from different backgrounds and experiences, who can challenge each other with fresh points of view. In order to foster this type of environment, we actively seek applicants from historically marginalized groups including women, people with disabilities, people of color, formerly incarcerated people, people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or gender nonconforming, first and second generation immigrants, and people from lower-income families.

Where We Can Hire

We are a distributed company, and while all of our current employees are in the US, we’re open to hiring anywhere in the world.

How We Determine Compensation

Our compensation strategy is centered around paying for the value each team member brings to the company, so we don’t base our salaries on where you live. You’ll be compensated at or above the fiftieth percentile for someone with your job title and experience at similar-sized startups in the SF Bay Area in both salary and equity.
